Препоръчвам ви да прочетете документацията на PQconnectStart функция и Асинхронна обработка на команди раздел на ръководството за PostgreSQL и след това го сравнете с примера по-горе.
Не съм използвал EventMachine преди, но ако ви позволява да регистрирате сокет и обратни извиквания, когато стане годен за четене/запис, мисля, че ще бъде сравнително лесно да интегрирате извиквания към база данни в него.
Възнамерявах да използвам идеите в Статията на Иля Григорик за използването на влакна за почистване на кода на събития за да направим async API по-лесен за използване, но това е далеч. Имам билет отворено да го проследите, ако сте заинтересовани/мотивирани да го направите сами.
